Brad Bergesen the Orioles minor league pitcher of the year will make his MLB debut tonight against the Chicago White Sox. The 23 year old right hander was 15-6 with a 3.22 ERA at AA Bowie last season. So far this year he has made two starts and is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA. Although not as highly touted as many of the O's other minor league arms he is definitely the most polished.
.....As I said in an earlier post it is always exciting when a young pitcher makes his debut. No matter what I know that I would rather see a guy like Bergesen get a start than some other retread veteren, or Adam Eaton at this point. Also to make room for Bergesen the O's optioned Liz back to AAA so they killed two birds with one stone.

If Bergesen can eat some innings and keep the team in the game I would be happy. Hopefully he can show some flashes, show some promise, get some people out. Worst case scenario he steps on the mound and gets ripped, loses confidence, gets relegated to bullpen duty and turns into one of the many starters whose career is ruined from being rushed to the majors too early. I just wished we had 5 so-so starters who could make it into the 6th inning and stay healthy so we didnt have to dip into our minor league system in april. I guess in july our 5 man rotation will be guthrie, koji, bergesen, patton, and tillman. Hope they are ready!
